As the first nights of the 76th annual Emmy Awards have come to a close, the Netflix animated series Blue Eye Samurai has emerged victorious amongst many of its long-popular competitors, according to ComicBook. With the stiff completion of The Simpsons, Bob’s Burgers, Scavengers Reign and X-Men ‘97, Blue Eye Samurai has clinched a major victory with the title of Outstanding Animated Program.
The Television Academy announced the win via their X account (see below). The Academy announced the nominations earlier this year with the specific episode “The Tale of the Ronin and the Bride” listed.

Blue Eye Samurai follows master sword maker Mizu, cutting through Edo-period Japan, on a quest for revenge on those who made them an outcast and, along the way, having to hide the very identities that made them an outcast— their blue eyes and the fact that they are a woman. With a unique art style and captivating action, the series became an instant hit on Netflix.
The series has also won other major awards, such as “individual achievements for Character Design, Storyboard, and Production Design,” according to ComicBook, which beat out long-running series despite only having one season.
The entirety of Blue Eye Samurai is available to stream on Netflix. The series consists of eight episodes, which were released late last year. With a second season currently in production, the executive producer of the series gave this update to ComicBook: “We’re excited how it’s coming along. It’s going great. We have the best team you could ask for working, applying all their talent and experience into doing the impossible again. And more of the impossible, and celebrating what we got good at and trying some new crazy things too.”
The past few years have been exceptional for new and old animated series, especially within the award circuit. With Blue Eye Samurai’s win over its competitors, fans are gearing up even more for the series’ second season.
