The Blue Bloods universe is expanding today, as CBS has announced a spinoff of the series set to premiere this coming fall. According to Deadline, the upcoming CBS show Boston Blue will take the current time slot of Blue Bloods, which usually airs on Fridays at 10pm. Alongside Donnie Wahlberg (Saw III, Southie) and Sonequa Martin Green (Once Upon a Time, Shockwave Darkside), CBS has cast Ernie Hudson to play the part of Reverend Peters, the Silver family patriarch, who owns a baptist church in Boston.
Via Deadline‘s article on the reprisal, Wahlberg will be returning as his previous role NYPD Officer Danny Reagan as he accepts a position with the Boston Police Department. Following his start in Boston, Detective Lena Silver, who is played by Martin-Green as the eldest daughter of a high class law enforcement family, will join alongside Wahlberg.
Best known for his role in Ghostbusters, Hudson’s character as the Reverend will open up new storylines and exciting drama paired with action, as CBS has revealed through Deadline that Hudson’s character’s family runs deep between the church and the police station. Described as a welcoming man, Reverend Peters will be revealed to be the father of Mae Silver, who stands as Boston’s District Attorney, and grandfather of Martin-Green’s character Detective Lena Silver, superintendent Ashley Silver, and the new patrol cop Isaac Silver.
The showrunners for the upcoming spinoff are set to be Brandon Sonnier (Danny Greene: The Rise and Fall of the Irishman, Superthief: Inside America’s Biggest Bank Score) and Brandon Margolis (The Blacklist, L.A.’s Finest) as well as executive producers of the series. Jerry Bruckheimer (Bad Boys for Life, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time), KristieAnne Reed (Lucifer, Hightown) and Wahlberg have also been reported to assist in executive producing, while Anthony Hemingway (Red Tails, Empire Records) will direct the first episode according to Deadline.
With the exact premiere date still to be announced, fans excited for the spinoff series with their favorite Blue Bloods characters can look forward to the series premiere being released this fall, and with more episodes to come in 2026.
