Per Variety, Halsey (American Dad!, Saturday Night Live) is set to helm Bloodlust, a new dark comedy series produced by Amazon MGM Studios. The actress and singer-songwriter will serve as creator, writer and executive producer but won’t star in the show. Ti West (Them, Tales from the Loop) will serve as director and EP, Mark Friedman (Severance, Wayward Pines) will serve as showrunner and EP and Halsey’s manager, Anthony Li (Eid Mubarak), will also serve as EP.
Plot details for the series are being kept under wraps. The project has been in development at Amazon for some time, with Halsey, Li and Friedman attached, but no official details have emerged until now.
The show will reunite Halsey and Ti West, who last collaborated on the 2024 film MaXXXine. Halsey’s other acting credits include appearing as herself in A Star Is Born, the Showtime series Roadies and the animated series Scooby-Doo and Guess Who? She has also played roles in the films Americana, Sing 2 and Teen Titans Go! To the Movies. She is best known for her musical career, having released the hit studio albums Badlands, Hopeless Fountain Kingdom, Manic, If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power and most recently, The Great Impersonator.
Bloodlust will be Halsey’s first television credit, although West has worked in television before, directing episodes of shows like The Resident and Soundtrack. For his film credits, West wrote and directed X and Pearl, the other two films in the X trilogy aside from MaXXXine, as well as horror films like The House of the Devil, Trigger Man, The Innkeepers and In the Valley of Violence.
Halsey is represented by UTA and The Lede Company; West by CAA, LBI Entertainment and Lichter Grossman; and Friedman by UTA and Johnson Shapiro Slewett & Kole.
