The NFC wild card playoff game between the Green Bay Packers and the San Francisco 49ers brought in 47.1 million viewers.
According to Entertainment Weekly, San Francisco’s victory over Green Bay was the highest-rated wild card game in the past 25 years. Ratings records go back as far as 1988 and this game could be the biggest wild card game to date. The wild card game rose 20 percent (25.8 in households) and 24 percent in total viewers over last year’s wild card game involving Seattle and Washington. For Fox, this was their most watched non Super Bowl event.
The cold weather in Wisconsin added to the drama of the game and could have driven viewers to watch the game to see how the weather affected the outcome if at all.
