Deadline has reported that Nicole Kidman (The Undoing, The Others), an executive producer and star on the show Big Little Lies, has leaked the possibility of a season three. The HBO show saw its last installment two years ago when season two aired and has been quiet ever since. However, Kidman recently expressed her love of the show and the possibility of a third season in a Q&A.
According to Deadline, Kidman regarded the show by saying, “I loved Big Little Lies,” and “We will be bringing you a third one, just FYI.” This happened at the CME Group Tour Championship this past Friday. However, while this statement caused audience speculation, there is no official season three in the works, according to inside sources.
Big Little Lies was an adaptation of Liane Moriarty’s (Nine Perfect Strangers, Apples Never Fall) novel of the same name and centered on a group of women who find themselves tied up in a murder in the middle of suburbia. The dark comedy starred Kidman, Reese Witherspoon (The Morning Show, Legally Blonde), Laura Dern (Marriage Story, Cold Pursuit), Zoe Kravitz (High Fidelity, The Batman), and Shailene Woodley (To Catch A Killer, Adrift).
Casey Bloys, chief of HBO, gave his statement to Deadline in 2020, saying “I think the thing with Big Little Lies is you have a group of people who all really love working together but obviously they’re some of the most high-profile people working in entertainment. Reese [Witherspoon], Nicole, Zoe [Kravitz], Laura [Dern], everybody is so busy. It would be great to get the band back together at some point but right now everybody is so busy and there’s no idea, where we’re all saying ‘that makes perfect sense’. I think it’s more of one of those ‘someday’.” This statement mirrored Kidman’s recent thoughts.
Executive producer, Brian Papandrea (The Bad Man, Blank Face), also expressed similar thoughts regarding the show earlier this year, says Deadline. He reportedly admitted, “I’ve been thinking about it a lot lately.”
