The cast of Season 2 of the HBO drama Big Little Lies is getting a little bit bigger. Actor Martin Donovan has been announced as the newest actor to join the show, playing Martin Howard, father of Bonnie Carlson (played by Zoe Kravitz). According to The Hollywood Reporter, Donovan will play a key recurring role in Season 2. The report says further details about his character are being kept quiet, however it is likely viewers will get to see him interact with Bonnie, as Kravitz is confirmed to be returning for Season 2, and Bonnie’s mother, Elizabeth Howard, who will be played by series newcomer Crystal Fox (OWN’s Tyler Perry’s The Haves and the Have Nots).
Fans of Showtime’s Weeds may remember Donovan as Peter Scottson, a love interest/corrupt DEA agent for main character Nancy Botwin (Mary-Louise Parker).
You may also recognize Donovan as Ezra Stone in the Kelsey Grammer-led Starz series Bosses or Mitchell Carson from the 2015 comic book flick Ant-Man.
In addition, Donovan will appear in the upcoming HBO TV movie Fahrenheit 451 (based off the Ray Bradbury novel) alongside Michael B. Jordan (Creed).
The actor joins previously announced Big Little Lies newcomers Meryl Streep (The Devil Wears Prada), Douglas Smith (TNT’s The Alienist) and Mo McRae (Den of Thieves), with Streep playing the mother of Perry Wright (Alexander Skarsgård), Smith playing Corey Brockfield, an eccentric aspiring marine biologist, and McRae portraying Michael Perkins.
Season 2 will also see the return of show stars Nicole Kidman (Celeste Wright), Reese Witherspoon (Madeline Martha Mackenzie) and Shailene Woodley (Jane Chapman), as well as Adam Scott (Ed MacKenzie), Laura Dern (Renata Klein), Kathryn Newton (Abigail Carlson), Sarah Sokolovic (Tori Bachman), Robin Weigert (Dr. Amanda Reisman) and Merrin Dungey (Detective Adrienne Quinlan).
Filming for Big Little Lies Season 2 started last month, and new episodes are expected to premiere on HBO sometime in 2019, according to Harper’s Bazaar.
