BET+ Sets Broadcast Premiere For Streaming Drama Series ‘Diarra From Detroit’

One of BET+’s hit series is coming to its linear network. The drama series Diarra From Detroit will air on BET proper beginning January 1 at 10 p.m. The comedic mystery series from lead Diarra Kilpatrick (Perry Mason, American Koko) premiered on the streaming platform in March. View the original trailer below.

The drama series follows Kilpatrick’s Diarra, a millennial Detroit school teacher entering a mid-life crisis. Pending a messy divorce from her socialite husband, Diarra finds solace in a Tinder date that feels like something more. After a great evening, she arranges a second date with the debonair suitor. But he unexpectedly disappears without a trace. Thinking she’s been ghosted, Diarra is ready to call it quits when she suspects something more nefarious has happened to her Prince Charming. Soon, Diarra finds herself chasing an unsolved true crime case throughout the city. Will she find her true love, or is this goose chase a symptom of her impending loneliness?

Created by Kilpatrick the series also stars Shannon Wallace (Divorce in the Black, City on a Hill), DomiNque Perry (Rap Sh!t, Insecure), Bryan Terrell Clark (Snearkerella, Our Son), Jon Chaffin (BMF, The Haves and the Have Nots), and Claudia Logan (The Equalizer, Harlem). Paul Ben-Victor (Monster, The Invisible Man), Phylicia Rashad (The Cosby Show, Polly), and Morris Chestnut (Watson, The Best Man Holiday) appear in guest supporting roles.

In an October HuffPost interview, Kilpatrick detailed how the series received critical praise but lacked more public acclaim because of its home base.

“I’ve seen on Twitter people being like, ‘this show hasn’t been promoted enough,’” Kilpatrick told the HuffPost. She detailed how its Tribeca Film Festival run helped push the show along with BET’s stronger promotional campaign.

“They actually did promote the show more than they normally would,” Kilpatrick said via HuffPost. “Do we have HBO’s marketing budget? We did not, nor does the platform have that thing where people are going, ‘What are they doing? What’s coming up next?’”

Hopefully, the show’s new home opens more eyes to the series and the streaming network.

All 10 episodes of Diarra From Detroit are available to stream on BET+. Watch the series on BET at 10 p.m. ET beginning January 1.
