Deadline reports that BET+ has officially renewed its popular comedy series The Ms. Pat Show for a fifth season. In addition, Patricia ‘Ms. Pat’ Williams has expanded her overall deal with BET Media Group to include both linear and streaming projects.

Production for the fifth season of The Ms. Pat Show is set to begin in February 2025, with a premiere date to be announced later. The series is available for streaming on BET+ and can also be viewed on directly on  BET.

The show centers on Williams, a former drug dealer and convicted felon who is now a suburban mother. It is based on her real experiences, which she discusses in her memoir Rabbit: The Autobiography of Ms. Pat. The show depicts a modern, multigenerational African American family that navigates life’s curveballs against the backdrop of contemporary cultural upheaval in an unvarnished, realistic manner. It is an updated version of the classic TV comedy formula.

What sets The Ms. Pat Show, created by Williams and Jordan E. Cooper (Wolf, Pose), apart in a crowded comedy landscape is its candid and humorous approach to controversial topics, including non-binary pronouns, abortion, Black hair, school shootings, drug addiction, racism, and child abuse.  The show brought something we had never seen before. Over the course of four seasons, the series has not only offered a platform for healing for Williams but has also resonated deeply with viewers, who appreciate her commitment to authenticity and realness.

Joining Williams in the executive production team for The Ms. Pat Show are Cooper, Patrick Walsh (Two Broke Girls, It’s Always Sunny in Philidelphia), Lee Daniels (The Deliverance, Precious), Brian Grazer (Arrested Development, Poison), Deb Evans (There’s Something About Maty, Twenties), Jon Radler (Perfect Harmony, This Beautiful Life), and Natalie Berkus (It’s Me, Hilary: The Man Who Drew Eloise, Who Are You). Mary Lou Belli (America, Girlfriends), who has received three consecutive Emmy nominations for Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series, will also return as director. Rose Catherine Pinkney (The Family Business, Black Hamptons) will serve as co-executive producer for BET+. The series is produced by Imagine Television, DaeLight Media, and Lee Daniels Entertainment.

Despite being more of an adult humor, some of the show’s content may be appropriate for young viewers. Williams discusses many difficult subjects and real-life circumstances in the show. Garrett Legal, Tigerman Management, and Independent Artist Group are Williams’s legal representatives.
