BET+ has officially renewed its hit freshman series Diarra From Detroit for a second season, Deadline reports. The dramedy, created by and starring Diarra Kilpatrick (American Koko, The Last O.G.), will return in 2025 with its core cast. Season two continues production under BET Studios and Khalabo Ink Society.

Season one followed Diarra, a fiery Detroit schoolteacher navigating a fresh divorce and a ghosting Tinder date gone suspiciously cold. Her relentless pursuit leads into the dark corners of the city’s criminal underworld. The series blends mystery, grit, and humor into an offbeat yet culturally rooted tale.

According to Deadline, the show quickly gained traction with audiences during its run on BET earlier this year.  It ranked as the No. 1 new cable series among Black viewers year-to-date. In key Nielsen demographics, Diarra From Detroit topped Black adults aged 18-49 and 25-54. It now ranks second among all scripted cable shows with Black audiences, trailing only Tyler Perry’s long-running Sistas.

“We’re excited to be back and grateful for the opportunity to take viewers on another very wild, very Detroit adventure,” said Kilpatrick via Deadline.

The creative team is led by Kilpatrick, alongside executive producers Kenya Barris (Black-Ish, Mixed-ish) and Miles Orion Feldsott (Deadly Class, Beats). The series is produced by BET Studios in partnership with Barris’ Khalabo Ink Society.

“It has been incredible watching fans and critics embrace this show in the way that they have, and we’re so excited to be back for more,” said Barris according to Deadline. “Last season proved just how wildly talented Diarra Kilpatrick is, and I, for one, can’t wait for everyone to see what she and the team have in store this time around.”

While plot details for season two remain under wraps, fans can expect more twists, deeper mysteries, and Detroit’s vibrant pulse beating at the heart of the story. The announcement marks a strong commitment by BET+ to original, Black-led storytelling.

Kilpatrick’s voice, backed by a bold creative team and standout performances, continues to shape a dynamic narrative space. With its renewal, Diarra From Detroit solidifies its place as a rising cultural touchstone in serialized streaming.
