According to Comicbook, Ben Stiller (Night At The Museum, Tropic Thunder) made a surprise appearance at a Zoolander screening in the Hollywood Forever Cemetery with Severance star Tramell Tillman (Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning, Godfather of Harlem). Tillman led a marching band in an homage to a similar scene from the show after Stiller’s introduction.
Per Comicbook, Stiller appeared as Derek Zoolander, saying, “Thank you all for coming. I’d like to thank the people at Cinespia for having the courage to have, the first ever, a nine year anniversary screening of Zoolander 2… What? Zoolander 1? Okay, cool. Well, I hope you really enjoy it, and don’t get freaked out by all those creepy, gross, dead people underneath you.”
Tilman brought the USC marching band out on stage, just as his character, Mr. Milchick, does in the season 2 finale of Severance, “Cold Harbor.” “That’s great,” Stiller said. “But this is kind of more like a Zoolander thing than a Severance thing. So maybe you could, I don’t know, play like a Zoolandery type of song?”
Tillman blew a whistle in response, and the band began a rendition of the song “Relax” by Powerman 5000, which appeared in the original Zoolander film. Afterwards, the band rushed off the stage just in time for the film to begin.
As Comicbook reports, Stiller was instrumental to Severance, having directed 11 out of 20 of the series’ episodes and serving as executive producer for all 20 episodes. He announced this weekend that he would not be directing any episodes of season 3 but would still serve as executive producer.
“It’s been full-time the last 8 months working on season 3, and I’m not going anywhere,” he said on social media. “We have incredible directors and a team that creates the show. I love directing it and look forward to it at some point again for sure. I feel like season 3 is going to be the best yet as we continue to evolve.”
