Unfortunately, it is with heavy hearts that we announce that beloved and prolific actor Lance Reddick, best known for his roles in The Wire, Fringe, and the John Wick film franchise, has passed away. He was only 60.
As reported by IGN.com, news of Reddick’s death was revealed to the public by his representative at Portrait PR, who confirmed that the actor was found dead in his home early this morning from natural causes. At this time, no other details pertaining to Reddick’s passing have been provided.
Reddick, who was widely praised for his role as Charon in all four John Wick films, had been doing interviews for the latest installment in the John Wick franchise, though he unfortunately was unable to attend the premiere of John Wick 4 due to his declining health. He was also slated to make an appearance in the franchise-spinoff film, Ballerina, as well as the upcoming reboot of White Men Can’t Jump and Percy Jackson and the Olympians, all of which will now be released posthumously.
Throughout his career (which spanned over a quarter of a century), Reddick made numerous appearances in film and television in projects such as Oz, Law & Order: SVU, Corporate, Paradise PD, Netflix’s Resident Evil, and The Legend of Vox Machina, as well as many more. He was best known for his roles as Cedric Daniels in the critically-acclaimed HBO Max series The Wire, Phillip Broyles in Fringe, and Deputy Chief Irvin Irving in Bosch. Reddick was also nominated for the Saturn Award for Best Supporting Actor in Television for his work on Fringe and Bosch.
Across social media, there is an outpour of grief and condolences from Reddick’s friends, family, and fans, including his former The Wire co-star Wendell Pierce, who shared, “A man of great strength and grace. As talented a musician as he was an actor. The epitome of class. An sudden unexpected sharp painful grief for our artistic family. An unimaginable suffering for his personal family and loved ones. Godspeed my friend. You made your mark here. RIP.”
Reddick is survived by his wife Stephanie and their children Yvonne and Christopher. It’s safe to say that he will certainly be missed.
