Peacock released the first look for the new Fresh Prince of Bel-Air reboot, simply titled Bel-Air. The new series will be a dramatic take on the premise of the original sitcom, with the three-minute trailer teasing just that. Bel-Air will premiere on February 13.
“This town will try to make you forget who you are and where you came from,” Jazz tells Will in the first few seconds of the trailer. The trailer also teases Will’s struggle to fit into his new setting, as well as the choices that led him to move to Bel-Air.
The trailer showcases the new cast including newcomer Jabari Banks playing the lead, Will. Joining Banks will be Adrian Holmes (19-2) as Uncle Phil, Cassandra Freeman (Blue Bloods) as Aunt Viv, Coco Jones (Let It Shine) as Hillary, Akira Akbar (Captain Marvel) as Ashley, Jimmy Akingbola (The Tower) as Geoffrey, Jordan L. Jones (Rel) as Jazz, and Simone Joy Jones (The Son of No One) as Lisa.
The series, based on the viral fan-made trailer, was created by Morgan Cooper (Black Boy Joy). Cooper also serves as co-writer and executive producer for the series. TJ Brady (The 100) and Rasheed Newson (Narcos) will also be executive producers on the series, along with the original Fresh Prince, Will Smith (Pursuit of Happyness).
Set in the modern day, Bel-Air is a dramatized, hour-long version of its flagship series and will follow the original premise: Will’s complicated journey from the streets of West Philly to the luxury of Bel-Air. As these two worlds collide, Will reckons with the power of second chances while dealing with the conflicts, emotions, and biases of his new world.
Bel-Air will premiere on February 13, with the first three episodes being released. The following episodes will stream weekly.
