According to an Apple TV press release, the streaming platform just picked up Beat the Reaper, a new series starring Emmy Award nominee Will Poulter (Meet the Millers, The Bear). The show will be based on the novel by Josh Bazell (Pure Genius, Beat The Reaper Tv Movie) of the same name. Poulter will play the character, Dr. Peter Brown, who is an intern at the worst hospital in Boston. Dr. Brown is a talented doctor whose hidden, dangerous past comes back to haunt when a patient recognizes him. In an eight-hour period, Brown will find himself hiding from the mob’s hitmen, quack surgeons, and the government while leaving a trail of dead gangsters to beat the reaper.
According to the press release, Sam Caitlin (Breaking Bad, Canterbury’s Law) will executive produce the Apple TV drama series along with Arnon Milchan (Psycho Killer, The First Snow of Fraggle Rock), Yariv Milchan (Malcom in The Middle: Life’s Still Unfair, Prime Target) and Natalie Lehmann (Black Hole, Jimi).
Poulter was recently featured in the fourth season of The Bear, playing chef Luca, a colleague to Jeremy Allen White’s (The Iron Claw, Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere) Carmy, and mentor to Marcus, played by Lionel Boyce (Hap and Leonard, Curb Your Enthusiasm). Poulter’s character premiered in the second season as Marcus’ Copenhagen teacher. He also briefly cameoed in the third season.
