‘Baywatch’ Star Carmen Electra Open For Reboot

Original Baywatch actress Carmen Electra (Scary Movie) revealed in a recent interview that she is open to taking part in a Baywatch reboot series, via ScreenRant. The soap opera premiered in 1989 and focused on a group of lifeguards at Malibu Beach in Los Angeles. It later resulted in several remakes, including a 2017 remake starring Dwayne Johnson (Jumanji, The Game Plan) and Zac Efron (The Greatest Showman). The show was most well known for the characters’ slow motion running shots.

Baywatch starred David Hasselhoff (Knight Rider), Pamela Anderson (Home Improvement), Yasmine Bleeth (Nash Bridges), and of course, Electra, who played the role of Lani McKenzie for one season in 1997, later reprising her role in the spin-off TV movie Baywatch: Hawaiian Wedding in 2003. In a recent interview with broadcaster Wendy Williams (The Wendy Williams Show), Electra claimed that she was very open to the idea of a reboot, despite the dangers of filming and having acted on the show over 23 years ago.

“I would do a reboot, absolutely. I’m down. I’m down to do it. It does get a little dangerous in those waters, though. I mean to be honest, we would shoot scenes and we’d jump in the water and the stunt coordinator would run over and say, ‘Listen, there are sharks in these waters, so just do your best.’ And we’re trying to swim, and I don’t know anyone who wants to necessarily randomly swim with sharks,” Electra said, via ScreenRant

Electra began her career in the industry as a singer and dancer, later becoming a model for Playboy which resulted in her role on Baywatch. She has since made appearances in the horror parody film Scary Movie and Cheaper By The Dozen 2 as well as cameos in the Fox show House and in The CW show Jane the Virgin. While reboots have increased in popularity in recent years with varying levels of success, it’s unlikely that a reboot will actually take place. However, the original impact of the Baywatch TV series has lived on and will continue for years to come.
