Actors Kevin Conroy (Batman: The Killing Joke) and John Glover (Smallville) revealed their upcoming audio drama titled Batman: The Animated Series Saturday at Los Angeles Comic Con, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The podcast will include the original cast and will continue the 1990s Batman: The Animated Series.
Batman: The Animated Series aired for 85 episodes from 1992-1995 and starred Mark Hamill (Child’s Play) as the Joker and introduced Harley Quinn, played by Arleen Sorkin (America’s Funniest People). The show, which won an Emmy for outstanding animated program in 1993, launched Conroy as Batman’s voice actor, and is currently considered one of the greatest animated comic book TV series by critics.
Writer of the original series, Alan Burnett (The New Batman Adventures), is attached to write for the audio project.
“It’s a great script by Alan Burnett and it brings back the original cast,” Conroy said, via The Hollywood Reporter.
While it’s still unknown which voice actors will reprise their roles, living cast members of the show include Paul Williams (Phantom of the Paradise), Richard Moll (Headless Horseman), David Warner (Titanic), Diane Pershing (The Freedom Force), Adrienne Barbeau (The Fog), Ron Perlman (Hellboy), Melissa Gilbert (Little House on the Prairie), and Loren Lester (Defenders of the Earth). No distribution platform for the new podcast has been revealed yet.
The original Batman series producer, Bruce Timm (Batman: The Killing Joke) is developing another series titled Batman: Caped Crusader, which he announced at DC FanDome in October. Meanwhile, several superhero audio dramas are currently available for streaming, including HBO Max’s Batman: The Audio Adventures, Spotify’s upcoming Batman Unburied, Marvel’s Wolverine: The Long Night, and Wolverine: The Last Trail.
