A new possible victim has joined the cast of the upcoming Chucky series. According to TVLine, Barbara Alyn Woods (One Tree Hill, Honey, I Shrunk the Kids) will appear in a recurring role in the USA Network and SyFy series set to premiere sometime this fall. Based on the horror franchise, Chucky will follow the sinister doll as he stalks a town with deadly secrets of its own.
Woods will play Michelle Cross, the mayor of Hackensack, according to TVLine. Not only will she be focused on trying to keep the city’s harmonious image intact during mysterious killing spree, but she will fight to keep her two daughters safe. One of which will be portrayed by Woods’ real-life daughter, Alyvia Alyn Lind (Dolly Parton’s Coat of Many Colors, Blended). Cross joins a cast that includes Bride of Chucky star Jennifer Tilly, Devon Sawa (Idle Hands, Final Destination), and original Chucky voice actor, Brad Dourif (One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, Mississippi Burning).
This iteration of Child’s Play will focus on a group of teens led by Zackary Arthur’s (The 5th Wave, Mom and Dad) Jake. Struggling with the loss of his mother, he and an unlikely group of friends will investigate the rash of murderous attacks in their peaceful town. To solve the case, they will descend into Hackensack’s own bloody past. Arthur is joined by Lind as Lexi, Teo Briones (Lonely Boy, Wind River) as Junior, and Bjorgvin Arnarson (The Seventh Day, Trip) as Devon.
According to TVLine, Child’s Play creator Don Mancini (Bride of Chucky, Seed of Chucky) will serve as showrunner and executive producer. He is joined by co-executive producers David Kirschner (Fievels’ American Tails, The Pirates of Dark Water), Harley Peyton (Less Than Zero, Bandits), Nick Antosca (The Obese, The Hangman’s Ritual), and Alex Hedlund (As Above, So Below, The Great Wall). Mancini has written all sex sequels in the Child’s Play franchise as well as directed three films. The sequels include 1990’s Child’s Play 2, Child’s Play 3 in 1991, 1998’s Birde of Chucky, 2004’s Seed of Chucky, Curse of Chucky in 2013, and Cult of Chucky in 2017. A remake of Child’s Play was released in 2019.
