A television adaptation of S.T. Abby’s romantic thriller series Mindf*ck is in its early stages at Balboa Productions, Sylvester Stallone’s (Rocky, Rambo) production company, as reported by Deadline on Wednesday. Sophia Stallone (Project Runway, The Family Stallone), Sylvester’s daughter, will executive produce along with Erin Simon (Betty Bakes a Cake, Guilty Pleasures), Matt Berenson (Gone, Secret In Their Eyes), and D. Matt Geller (Remember, Kiss of the Spider Woman) while the series’ showrunner is still being chosen. The announcement comes on the heels of a first-look deal Balboa signed with Amazon MGM Studios via Deadline in April of 2023.
Per Deadline, Mindf*ck follows Lara Myers, a serial killing femme fatale who embarks on a quest for revenge against the men who ruined her life, only to risk having her mission compromised by her tenuous romantic feelings for Logan Bennett, the FBI agent sent to profile the murders she’s responsible for. The book series began in 2016 and spans five volumes, quickly amassing a cult following within TikTok’s ‘BookTok’ subculture. S.T. Abby, the tongue-in-cheek purported author of Mindf*ck, was the pen name for Christie Marie Owens (Deadly Beauties, Daughter of Aphrodite), a prolific romantic novel author who sadly passed away following a domestic altercation in 2021.
In an interview with Deadline, Stallone stated that she was profoundly impacted by the main character of Mindf*ck’s emotional journey. “Lana Myers wrecked me… in the best way.” “Her rage is righteous, her love story with Logan is a ticking time bomb, and her vengeance? Unstoppable.” She also assured readers that the upcoming adaptation would remain faithful to the source material: “I was a fan long before I became a producer, and now I’m fighting for Lana’s story like it’s my own. We’re not watering it down. We’re telling this story the way the author always intended—raw, fearless, and unforgettable. We owe that to the fans. And to S.T. Abby.”
Stallone herself has been no stranger to the literary community, running an online book club called Favorite Book Club which she balances along with her and her sister Sistine’s podcast Unwaxed. Her own debut novel, entitled Ryder’s Block, is also nearing completion, according to Deadline.
No release date for Mindf*ck has been given, but those enamored by its premise can find all five tomes of Abby’s series at their local bookstore.
