The spin-off series for Avatar: The Last Airbender will hit Netflix’s catalog of content on August 14th, according to Screen Rant. The spin-off series, entitled Avatar: The Legend of Korra, is based upon the 2005 animated Nickelodeon original Avatar: The Last Airbender which was created by Bryan Konietzko (Invader Zim, Mission Hill) and Michael Dante DiMartino (King of the Hill, Family Guy). The source series Avatar: The Last Airbender ran from 2005 to 2008, amassing a total of 61 episodes over three seasons. The animated series gained critical and commercial success and has even seen a resurgence in popularity due to its recent arrival on Netflix’s content catalog.
Avatar: The Legend of Korra also premiered on the Nickelodeon network and began its four-season run in 2012. The series’ four seasons combined accounted for 52 episodes from 2012 to 2014 and was once more created by Konietzko and DiMartino. The spin-off series is set in the same universe as its predecessor and follows Korra, one of the main characters from the original series, and her journey as the successor as the Avatar after the Aang from the first series. In this spin-off series, Korra is now 17-years-old and is voiced by Janet Varney (You’re the Worst) as she is the reincarnation of the Avatar. Additional voice cast includes J.K. Simmons (Whiplash, Brockmire) as Tenzin, P.J. Bryne (The Wolf of Wall Street) as Bolin, David Faustino (Married… with Children) as Mako, Mindy Sterling (Austin Powers) as Lin Beifong, and Seychelle Gabriel (Falling Skies) as Asami Sato.
Avatar: The Legend of Korra will release all four seasons on the streaming platform on Friday, August 14 and will satisfy many Avatar fans who were upset that the spin-off series was not added alongside the source series’ addition to Netflix.
