The highly anticipated live-action version of Avatar: The Last Airbender is on its way to being complete. The latest update posted to Twitter has granted some very enticing news in regard to the development of the beloved series.
Following the peek into the actors who will be portraying the original animated characters of Aang, Katara, Sokka, and Zuko, the update posted to Twitter provides fans with a fresh view into the new live-action version of Avatar. The official Avatar: Last Airbender Netflix Twitter account tweeted, “Open a new chapter… Synchron Stage Orchestra and Choir bringing Avatar: The Last Airbender’s score to life.”, debuting to fans that the post-production process of scoring the series is now in the works.
Along with this update, Netflix released video of each updated crest from every element’s nation. The video debuted at Netflix’s fan event Tudum to the lucky viewers that were there. At the event, Gordon Cormier, who is playing the series’ protagonist Aang, told the audience “Avatar: The Last Airbender live-action I feel like is going to bring everything you know and love about the original series back to life,” and the video of each crest proved him correct as the excitement is getting higher and higher.
Avatar: The Last Airbender originally aired on Nickelodeon from 2005-2008 as an animated cartoon geared more toward children. It was then recreated as a live-action movie for the first time in 2010 but is now becoming a live-action television series again in 2024. The show takes us on a whimsical journey surrounding the elemental nations of the world. It is centered around Aang, the last living airbender, and his friends Sokka, Katara, and Toph trying to stop the evil flames of the fire nation from taking over all while riding the back of the beloved flying bison Appa. According to ScreenRant, the first season will be eight episodes long, each being around an hour in length and it will begin with “Book One: Water” from the original series.
The Netflix series will be starring Cormier (The Stand,) as Aang, the young Avatar. He will embark on his journey with his friend Katara, played by Kiawentiio (Anne With an E), and her brother Sokka, played by Ian Ousley (Physical, 13 Reasons Why). They will face many obstacles along their path, one of them being the fiery Prince Zuko, played by Dallas Liu (Pen15, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the 10 Rings), who fuels the Fire Nation’s rage.
The cast will also include Amber Midthunder (Prey) as Princess Yue, Daniel Dae Kim (Lost, Hawaii 5-0) as Fire Lord Ozai, and Danny Pudi (Community) as the Mechanist. The cast list is constantly being updated and with every announcement comes more excitement for the series.
While there is still no word on the exact release date of the series, it is still scheduled to debut in 2024.
