Disney+’s Percy Jackson and the Olympians, based on the books written by Rick Riordan (The Lightning Thief, The Lost Hero), has added Tamara Smart (Artemis Fowl, A Babysitter’s Guide to Monster Hunting) to its ensemble cast. In an exclusive interview with Comicbook, as Riordan was promoting his newest book, Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Wrath of the Triple Goddess, he explained that the role of Thalia is “the most anticipated casting announcement” for fans of the series and books alike.
“We are announcing the casting for Thalia Grace, who is probably the most anticipated casting announcement among the fans,” Riordan shared via Comicbook.com. “That wasn’t my decision, Disney just said, ‘Hey, okay, today we can do this,’ and I was like, ‘Wow, cool!'”
According to Comicbook.com, Riordan then confirmed that Smart is “so perfect” for the role of Thalia, explaining that “the story” of how she was cast could be “worthy of a movie.”
“I am so thrilled with the person we got, and the story of how we got them and why is so perfect,” Riordan added via Comicbook.com. “It is itself like worthy of a movie. It’s really incredible.”
Riordan teased that he will speak more about Smart being cast as Thalia Grace in the upcoming virtual events of Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Wrath of the Triple Goddess, which will be on the morning of Sept. 25.
