We’re getting ever so slightly closer to the rebooted premiere of Twin Peaks, folks. With news trickling out every so often, it can drive a person nutty waiting for–well, those nutty folks on Twin Peaks.
As it turns out, Audible is making the wait a little easier. Audible Studios (obviously the studio behind Audible, the premiere audiobook service) has released clips from the upcoming release of the Twin Peaks audiobook, The Secret Diary of Laura Palmer. Any casual viewer of the show will be able to identify who Laura Palmer is, and better yet, Sheryl Lee (who plays the tragic figure on the show) herself will be narrating the story!
The Secret Diary of Laura Palmer tells the dark secrets Twin Peak fans have been clamoring for. The “diary” details Laura’s life from ages 12 to her death at age 17, giving more description and depth to the circumstances of her murder. Fans will be able to see how this homecoming queen changed from a happy tween to the paranoid and struggling person she became. Her diary even describes the appearance of “BOB”–an off-putting man with long hair who stalks Laura’s waking life–and how he helped lure Laura into worlds like sexual promiscuity, drugs, and prostitution. But as Laura falls lower and lower, she must consider whether or not BOB is a friend or foe–or if he’s even real.
The Secret Diary is solidly apart of Twin Peaks canon. Written by David Lynch’s daughter, Jennifer, and commissioned by creators Mark Frost and David Lynch, The Secret Diary will be mandatory reading for any fan that wants the full extent of character origin stories, Easter eggs, and even hints to the identity of Laura Palmer’s killer.
The full audiobook won’t be released until May, but you can hear the first three excerpts here:
