Apple TV+’s newest multigenerational saga, Pachinko, was renewed for a sophomore season, as the streamer announced Friday, according to Deadline. The debut season’s finale will premiere Friday on Apple TV+.
Pachinko, based on a 2017 novel of the same name by Min Jin Lee (Free Food for Millionaires), followed four generations of the hopes and aspirations of a Korean immigrant family through its efforts to stay afloat across Korea, Japan and the United States. The debut season primarily focused on a Korean family who moved to Japan during its colonial rule of Korea, and later their posterity who dealt with marginalization in the present day. It starred Lee Min-ho (Heirs), Kim Min-ha (After Spring), Jin Ha (Love Life), Anna Sawai (F9) and Youn Yuh-jung (Minari).
The upcoming season has been said to highlight the third generation of characters, while still focusing on the stories of the last season’s protagonists.
“Words cannot express my joy in being able to continue telling the extraordinary story of this indomitable family,” showrunner Soo Hugh (The Whispers) said, via Deadline. “I’m grateful to the amazing team at Apple and Media Res studio for believing and supporting this show and to our passionate fans who have cheered us on. It’s an honor to be able to continue working with this amazing cast and crew.”
The first season’s trailer can be viewed below, and its finale can be watched on Apple TV+ Friday.
