Apple TV has officially set a premiere date for its upcoming drama series Nocturne. According to Deadline, the 10-episode series starring Liev Schreiber (Spotlight, Everything Is Illuminated, X-Men Origins: Wolverine), Zazie Beetz (Atlanta, Joker, Deadpool 2), and Stephen Graham (This Is England, Boiling Point, Snatch) will premiere on October 30. The project was previously titled Lazarus.
Based on Lars Kepler’s (“The Nightmare,” “The Fire Witness,” “The Rabbit Hunter”) novels “Lazarus” and “The Sandman,” Nocturne follows Jonah Lynn, played by Schreiber, a former soldier who becomes a homicide detective. After growing tired of working the streets of Philadelphia, Jonah moves to a small town in Western Pennsylvania in search of a quieter life.
However, Jonah’s new life is threatened when the town and his family come under attack from serial killer Jurek Walter, played by Graham. As the search for Jurek’s last missing victim intensifies, Jonah sends his surrogate daughter, FBI Agent Saga Bauer, played by Beetz, to confront the dangerous killer.
The series also stars Bill Camp (Sound of Freedom, 12 Years a Slave, The Killing of a Sacred Deer), Rory Culkin (Signs, Mean Creek, You Can Count on Me), Chrissy Metz (This Is Us, American Horror Story, Breakthrough), Poorna Jagannathan (The Night Of, Never Have I Ever, Big Little Lies), and Gary Carr (21 Bridges, Bolden, Death in Paradise).
Nocturne was developed for television by Rowan Joffe (The Informer, Before I Go to Sleep, Tin Star) and John Hlavin (Underworld: Awakening, The Man Who Fell to Earth, Shooter). Hlavin serves as showrunner, writer, and executive producer, while Joffe also serves as writer and executive producer.
The series is produced by A+E Studios in association with Range Studios. Tim Van Patten (Boardwalk Empire, The Sopranos, Class of 1984) will direct the first two episodes and serve as an executive producer on the series. Schreiber also executive produces, while Beetz executive produces through her Sleepy Poppy production company.
Additional executive producers include authors Alexandra Coelho Ahndoril (“The Spider,” “The Sleepwalker,” “The Mirror Man”) and Alexander Ahndoril (“The Director,” “I Will Find The Key,” “A Play To Kill”), who jointly publish under the name Lars Kepler. Øystein Karlsen (Dag, Exit, One Night), David Rysdahl (No Exit, Nine Days, The Revival), Dorothy Fortenberry (The Handmaid’s Tale, The 100, Extrapolations), and Niclas Salomonsson (The Informer, Detective Hole, The Helicopter Heist) also executive produce.
Nocturne premieres October 30 on Apple TV.
