Apple TV’s upcoming series Ascension has announced three series regulars to its cast. According to Deadline, Art Malik (True Lies, The Jewel in the Crown), Fred Loxley (Falling, Killa Bee), and Mirren Mack (A Tale of Two Cities, 28 Years Later; The Bone Temple) will join the hour-long psycho-horror thriller series.
The trio will star alongside the previously confirmed lead star Caitríona Balfe as well as Billy Nighy (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Full Cast Audio Edition, Ride or Die), Amanda Plummer (The Mastermind, Showing Up), Christopher Chung (My Brilliant Career, Dragon Striker), and T’Nia Miller (My Brother the Minotaur, The Mighty Nein).
Based on Adam Nevill’s (No One Gets Out Alive, House of Small Shadows) novel Last Days, Ascension is a psychological horror series with hour-long episodes. The story centers on Rose, a determined documentary filmmaker and recently divorced mother who has built a career exposing other people’s secrets while struggling with unresolved issues in her own life. Her latest project leads her to investigate the Church of Ascension, a mysterious cult from the 20th century. As she becomes increasingly drawn to the group’s beliefs, Rose begins to uncover a much darker side to the organization.
The series examines the conflict between good and evil, questioning the lengths people are willing to go and the sacrifices they may make to keep their loved ones safe, particularly when they themselves could pose the greatest danger.
