According to Deadline, Apple TV+ has canceled comedic series Mythic Quest. The streamer has decided not to move forward with the series at this time, following the recent premiere of its fourth season on March 26. The fourth season will now be produced with a series finale to end the series, giving fans closure.
“Endings are hard. But after four incredible seasons, Mythic Quest is coming to a close. We’re so proud of the show and the world we got to build — and deeply grateful to every cast and crew member who poured their heart into it,” series creators/executive producers Megan Ganz (Modern Family, Community), David Hornsby and Rob McElhenney (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Figment) said in a statement Friday via Deadline. “To all our fans, thank you for playing with us. To our partners at Apple, thank you for believing in the vision from the very beginning. Because endings are hard, with Apple’s blessing we made one final update to our last episode — so we could say goodbye, instead of just game over.”
As per Deadline, the series not being renewed isn’t surprising as the fourth season has had a very quiet run.. The series has also had a very shaky run since it aired its first season on the streamer.
Mythic Quest, created by McElhenney ,Ganz and Charlie Day (Fist Fight, Merry Little Batman), aired on Apple TV+ in 2020. The series follows a fictional video game studio that produced a popular MMORPG game with the same title. The series also has a spinoff titled Side Quest, which explores the lives of employees, players and fans who are impacted by the game in an anthology format.
According to Deadline, the series is produced by Lionsgate, 3 Arts Entertainment,,and Ubisoft. The series is executive produced by McElhenney and Day under their RCG banner and Michael Rotenberg (Office Space, Extract) and Nicholas Frenkel (Pure Grit) on behalf of 3 Arts.
Mythic Quest is available to stream on Apple TV+. The season finale airs on the streamer on April 16.
