The Morning Show is one of the most iconic and signature shows on Apple TV+. It first premiered on November 1, 2019, followed by massive popularity and critical acclaim. The series features the story of a broadcast network program and the turmoils after the expose of a sexual scandal. Amid the chaos, a new face joins the program and a new executive is manipulating his power to impact the whole network.
Renewal of The Morning Show came after a successful run of season two. Although the second season encountered mixed reviews from critics, it maintained good receptions from the audience with an 80% approval ratings on Rotten Tomatoes. Both seasons targeted some of the most serious matters going on at the moment. The first season reflected the #MeToo movement and broadcast network scandals. Season two ended with a cliffhanger that the Covid-19 pandemic was sweeping the nation. The upcoming new season will possibly pick up the story from there, and introduce how the network is running under one of the deadliest pandemics.
Stoudt, a WGA-award winner, will become the third showrunner of this series following Jay Carson (The Frontrunner) and Kerry Ehrin (Bates Motel). Stoudt reportedly signed a multiple-year overall deal with Apple TV+ for scripted series. “I’m excited to be joining forces with Apple TV+ and The Morning Show,” Stoudt said in a statement Monday. “The cast, led by the phenomenal Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon, are truly to die for. Kerry, Mimi and Michael, and the teams at Media Res, Hello Sunshine, and Echo Films, have created an irresistible world that is equally delicious and provocative.”
Jennifer Aniston (Friends, Bruce Almighty) and Reese Witherspoon (Legally Blonde, Walk The Line) play the two leading roles in The Morning Show, Alex Levy and Bradley Jackson. Aniston won herself a Screen Actor Guild Award with her performance in The Morning Show. It became the second SAG award for Aniston since she won Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series in 1996. Both Aniston and Witherspoon are executive producers. The series also stars Billy Crudup (Gypsy, Spotlight), Steven Carell (The Office), Mark Duplass (The League), Gugulethu Mbatha-Raw (Belle), and more.

Witherspoon expressed her excitement for the upcoming season: “If #MeToo was the center of season one and season two has so many issues but really tackles the impending pandemic, I would love to see how the world realigns post-quarantine,” she told THR. “Even though that seems optimistic to say at this point, with people still dealing with the complexity of COVID and really what it’s doing to different industries. But just, how the whole world has culturally shifted in so many ways; the way we communicate and work, the way we talk to each other — there’s definitely a lot to talk about and tackle.”
Both seasons contain 10 episodes. The finale of season two premiered on November 19, 2021. The Morning Show is exclusively available on Apple TV+.
