When Jon Stewart signed off of The Daily Show in the summer of 2015, no one could have guessed the hole that would be left by his absence. Trevor Noah (Black Panther) has done a fantastic job filling in for Stewart, but with a new host comes new topics, styles, and characters, giving the show its own spin. Now, fans of Stewart, will be happy that, after six years, the famous comedian is returning to the screen.
Via CNN Business, Apple TV+ has announced that Stewart’s new show, The Problem with Jon Stewart, will debut on September 30 in a post on Instagram. Unlike a slew of its content, Apple TV will not release the entire season at once. They have instead elected to drop episodes in biweekly installments. The show will also have a podcast acting as a companion to each episode.
It has been a long time since Stewart has graced the screen and even long since he has hosted his own show. It will be interesting to see the larger-than-life comedian in an entirely new climate with a new president and extremely different hot-topic issues.
In a description obtained by CNN Business, Apple depicted The Problem as “a multiple-season, single-issue series, taking a deep-dive on the most important topics that are currently part of the national conversation.” This includes Stewart interviewing guests “impacted by the issue” as well as “those who have a hand in creating the impact.”
The new show is a major step for Apple TV, which has been in a heated race with veteran and fledgling streaming sites alike. Shows like Ted Lasso and now The Problem are important components moving forward for the platform.
Apple also released a hilarious trailer for the new series, picking at Stewart’s now-unkempt face. The man has aged, but he has never lost his magic.
