Apple TV+ Renews ‘Foundation’ For A Third Season

Developed by David S. Goyer (Blade, The Unborn) and Josh Friedman (Avatar: The Way of Water, Snowpiercer), the science fiction series Foundation debuted on Apple TV+ in September 2021. The second season premiered this summer on July 14th. As Deadline notes, nearly five months after the release of season two, Apple TV+ has renewed Foundation for a third season.

According to Deadline, the Head of Programming for Apple TV+ Matt Cherniss spoke about the series. He stated, “We have all been incredibly impressed with the ambitious, action-packed and imaginative adaptation that David and the rest of this gifted creative team and cast have brought to life with this premium sci-fi series from day one.”

He continued, “To watch ‘Foundation’ become such a global hit has been beyond exciting with audiences around the world continuing to be captivated week after week by this dramatic and compelling journey to save humanity. We can’t wait for everyone to experience what is in store for characters old and new in season three.”

Goyer, who also serves as an executive producer, shared his thoughts on the news of Foundation‘s renewal. As Deadline notes, he stated, “I’m thrilled Apple has given us the opportunity to continue chronicling Asimov’s pioneering galactic saga. This time, the stakes for Foundation and Empire are even higher as the Mule takes center stage, along with fan-favorites Bayta, Toran, Ebling, and Magnifico Giganticus.”

Foundation is based on a book series of the same name by author Isaac Asimov (The Last Question, The End of Eternity). The series is set in the future and revolves around a world where humans live within the Galactic Empire. As the Empire begins to fall, individuals band together to try to preserve humanity.

The cast includes Jared Harris (Chernobyl, The Terror) as mathematician Hari Seldon, Lou Llobell (Voyagers, The Pilgrim) as Gaal Dornick, Lee Pace (Pushing Daisies, The Fall) as Brother Day, and many more.
