Apple TV+ Renews ‘Bad Monkey’ For Second Season

According to Deadline, Apple TV+ has renewed the breakout comedy Bad Monkey for second season. Bill Lawrence (Ted Lasso) developed, executive produced, and helmed the series. Vince Vaughn (Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story), who stars in the series, also executive produces.

The series gets renewed one month after the first season premiere on the streamer. The series follows Andrew Yancy a former police detective, who has been reduced to conducting restaurant inspections in South Florida. The series will be moving from Florida to Los Angeles in the second season.

As per Deadline, the series was created based on Carl Hiaasen’s work and will pick up shoots in Florida. Lawrence told Deadline that the original plan for the second season was to base it on Hiaasen’s other novel, which then changed as of last month. The second season will not be an original work influenced by Hiaasen’s works.

“I hope that people know that Carl Hiaasen (Hoot) is an idol of mine and an inspiration for me as a writer,” Lawrence said. “To get to go on telling his story with Vince Vaughn and this great cast, at least the characters who are still alive, is very exciting. I’m very thankful to our partners at Apple TV+ and Warner Bros, as well as the entire team that helps bring this show to life.”

In the finale postmortem interview with Deadline Lawrence said, “Anybody that’s still alive, that people responded to, we’re going to figure out a way that they exist in our world — or at least cruise through,”

“Since Bad Monkey first made its debut on Apple TV+, this highly entertaining series became an instant fan-favorite,” said Matt Cherniss, head of programming for Apple TV+ via Deadline. “Led by the incomparable Vince Vaughn as ‘Andrew Yancy,’ alongside a brilliant ensemble cast, we can’t wait for everyone to experience more hilarious, sun-soaked, beachy misadventures from the mind of Bill Lawrence as the temperature rises even further in the next chapter of this engrossing murder-mystery.”

The first season of Bad Monkey is available to stream on Apple TV+.
