Apple TV+ has released the trailer for the sophomore season of its anthological drama series, Truth Be Told, according to Variety. The second season will premiere on August 20.
The debut season of the series follows true-crime podcaster Poppy Parnell, played by Octavia Spencer (The Help), as she analyzes the crimes of a convicted murderer, played by Aaron Paul (Breaking Bad), who claims he was framed. Based on Kathleen Barber’s (Follow Me) 2017 novel, Are You Sleeping?, the drama was originally meant to be a limited series. However, the upcoming season will feature a new story, with returned characters.
Spencer will revive her role as Poppy, now with a new case with her childhood friend at the center. When media mogul Micah Keith, played by Kate Hudson (Almost Famous), finds her husband dead, she reaches out to Poppy to help her unveil who is responsible. “Who do you trust with your deepest secrets? And what would you do if you found out they were lying to you?” Poppy asks her listeners in the trailer.
Additions to the cast this season include Christopher Backus (Indiscretion), Alona Tal (Broken City), David Lyons (Safe Haven), Andre Royo (Hunter Gatherer), Merle Dandridge (Greenleaf), and Mychala Faith Lee (Lulu). Mehki Phifer (8 Mile), Ron Chephas Jones (This Is Us), Tracie Thoms (Rent), Heneefah Wood (Zoe Ever After), Katherine LaNasa (Longmire), Michael Beach (Deep Blue Sea 2), and Tami Roman (Basketball Wives) will reprise their respective roles.
