Apple TV+ will be streaming a different type of cooking show. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Apple TV+ recently released the trailer for their new drama series Lessons in Chemistry. The show is based on the best-selling novel by debut author Bonnie Garmus and will be available this fall.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Brie Larson (Captain Marvel, Room) will star as Elizabeth Zott. Other cast members include Lewis Pullman (The Starling Girl, Top Gun: Maverick) as Calvin; Aja Naomi King (A Little White Lie, Boxing Day) as Harriet Slone; Stephanie Koenig (The Offer, A Spy Movie) as Fran Frask; Kevin Sussman (The Big Bang Theory, The Dropout) as Walter; Patrick Walker (Ambush, The Green) as Wakely, and Thomas Mann (Parachute, About Fate) as Boryweitz.
The show is set in the early 1950s and follows Elizabeth, who dreams of being a scientist but is forced to put her dreams on hold due to a patriarchal society that imposes norms that say women are meant to be housewives. After finding out she is pregnant and alone, Elizabeth gets fired from her lab, so, with the ingenuity only a single mother has, she accepts a job as a host on a televised cooking show. But instead of showing recipes, Elizabeth will try to show a nation of overlooked housewives that the status quo can be changed as she wishes to return to the lab. Watch the trailer below.
Lessons in Chemistry is being produced by Aggregate Films and executive produced by Susannah Grant (Unbelievable, Confirmation), and Louise Shore (Birds of Paradise, A Teacher), alongside Larson. Lee Eisenberg (Little America, WeCrashed) serves as the showrunner. Jason Bateman (Ozark, Kidding) and Michael Costigan (The Outsider, A Teacher) are executive producing for Aggregate Films. Natalie Sandy (Little America, WeCrashed) is Piece of Work Entertainment’s executive producer alongside Eisenberg.
When done with Lessons in Chemistry, Larson will return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe to reprise her role as Carol Danvers, better known as Captain Marvel, in the new movie The Marvels. The movie will feature a team-up with TV show characters Monica Rambeau, played by Teyonah Parris (Candyman, The Photograph), and Kamala Khan, played by Iman Vellani (Ms. Marvel). The movie will also include Samuel L. Jackson (Pulp Fiction, Star Wars) reprising his role as Nick Fury, Zawe Ashton (Mr. Malcolm’s List, Velvet Buzzsaw), and Park Seo-Joon (Parasite, Itaewon Class). The movie is set to premiere on November 10.
Lessons in Chemistry will premiere in the fall of 2023, exclusively on Apple TV+.
