According to Deadline, the show is from Bill Lawrence (Rush Hour, Cougar Town), the co-creator of the hit series Ted Lasso, with Brett Goldstein (Soulmates, Ted Lasso) as the writer alongside Segel. Shrinking will premiere its first two episodes on January 27 with new episodes coming out every Friday.
The other cast members that will appear on the show include Christa Miller (Cougar Town, Scrubs) as Liz, Jessica Williams (Love Life, Booksmart) plays Gaby, Michael Urie (Younger, Swan Song) will play Brian, Luke Tennie (Deadly Class, CSI: Vegas) as Sean, Lukita Maxwell (Generation, Speechless) plays Alice, Tilky Jones (The Rookie, The Charm of Love) as Donny, Rosslyn Luke (Boys, The Rookie) will play Sarah, and Matt Knudsen (Rhythm & News) is Steven.
Ford is set to play Dr. Phil Rhodes who, according to TVLine, is described as “a down-to-earth, sharp as a tack ‘blue collar shrink’ blunt but with an ever-present twinkle.” Dr. Rhodes is a pioneer in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and has built a successful practice over the years which he shares with his two young proteges, Jimmy and Gaby.
The executive producers for the show include Lawrence, Segel, Goldstein, Neil Goldman (Charlie Rose, HouseBroken), James Ponsoldt (Summering, Sorry for Your Loss), Randall Winston (Mixed-ish, Grace and Frankie), Jeff Ingold (Ted Lasso, Head of the Class), and Liza Katzer (Ted Lasso, Life Sentence). The series is being produced by Warner Bros. Television and Lawrence’s Doozer Productions.
The series was created by Lawrence, Segel, and Goldstein who also wrote the first episode for Shrinking which was directed by Ponsoldt.
