Apple TV has released a new trailer for its upcoming psychological horror thriller Cape Fear, according to an Apple TV press release. The series stars Javier Bardem (No Country for Old Men, Skyfall), Amy Adams (Arrival, American Hustle), and Patrick Wilson (The Conjuring, Watchmen).
Inspired by the 1991 film directed by Martin Scorsese (Goodfellas, The Departed) and produced by Steven Spielberg (Jaws, Jurassic Park), the series follows married attorneys Anna and Tom Bowden after Max Cady, the man they helped send to prison, is released and begins seeking revenge against them.
Amy Adams plays Anna Bowden, Patrick Wilson stars as Tom Bowden, and Javier Bardem portrays Max Cady. The series was created and executive produced by Nick Antosca (The Act, Candy), with Scorsese and Spielberg also serving as executive producers.
According to the press release, the trailer shows “fear taking hold” as Max Cady reenters the Bowden family’s life following his release from prison. The footage heavily emphasizes the psychological tension between the characters, as Max Cady slowly forces his way into the family’s world.
The trailer presents Cady as a persistent and threatening figure whose return begins unraveling the lives of Anna and Tom Bowden. The report describes the project as a “psychological horror thriller,” suggesting a darker, more suspense-driven approach to the story.
The series is inspired by both the 1991 adaptation and the source material, John D. MacDonald’s The Executioners. Cape Fear will premiere globally on Apple TV on June 5. The limited series joins the platform’s growing lineup of thriller and drama programming led by major film actors and filmmakers.
mxdwn has previously covered the release of the show’s earlier teaser trailer. That report focused on the first footage released by Apple TV, highlighting the tense atmosphere surrounding Javier Bardem’s version of Max Cady and the series’s psychological horror tone.
The newly released trailer expands on that first look, giving audiences a clearer sense of the conflict between Max Cady and the Bowden family as the series approaches release.
