After two years of waiting, the long-awaited third season of the hit series Ted Lasso has fans excited. According to Deadline, Apple TV+ released their official trailer today. In the trailer, fans can now get a glimpse of Ted played by Jason Sudeikis (We’re the Millers, Fools Paradise) and Nathan Shelley played by Nick Mohammed (The Martian, The Ballad of Renegade Nell) as rivals. It is now confirmed that the series would return on March 15th, which leaves many viewers excited and eager in anticipation.
The Emmy-winning show first took to Apple TV in August of 2020 and was developed by Sudeikis, Bill Lawrence (Scrubs, Cougar Town), Brendan Hunt (Key and Peele, Bless This Mess), and Joe Kelly (How I Met Your Mother, Detroiters). Ted Lasso goes through the motions of his new occupation as coach of the Soccer League and learns what there is to know about the sport in comedic fashion. According to Deadline, the show was made by Larence’s Doozer Productions, which works closely in collaboration with Warner Bros.
Most of the original cast is expected to return to the delight of fans. This new season also brings in two new characters with Ted’s Mom being played by Becky Ann Baker (Men in Black, A Simple Plan) and Jack who will be played by Jodi Balfour (True Detective, The Crown). Many questions should get answered this season, including the legacy of Ted Lasso, what happens now with him and Ned, and would Roy and Keeley split up? Well now fans can get another look to find out.
In this trailer, the highlight for many has to be the song “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” by the Rolling Stones. The trailer starts with an establishing shot of the Nelson Road Stadium and then quick shots of the cast walking forward. The song then plays “you can’t always get what you want” while showing Nathan sitting by himself at a restaurant sipping on wine while looking out a window. This hints at the events that occurred during the previous season. When that verse repeats, the audience would see juxtaposing shots of Ted and his team losing to a rival. There are more shots of the characters interacting with each other and hints of what events can transpire, including what happens with Roy and Keeley sitting on a bed holding hands. The final third of the trailer shows the rivalry between Ted and Nathan, as well as their teams fighting vigorously in their soccer matches. The final shot then ends with Ted saying “Great Job” in reference to Roy Kent played by Brett Goldstein (Thor: Love and Thunder, Uncle) saying the line.
This would more than likely be the final season for the hit series on Apple TV+ according to The Hollywood Reporter and Deadline. Whatever the future holds for this fan favorite coach, only time would tell as audiences witness his story unfold.
