According to The Hollywood Reporter, Apple TV+ has announced that it will be postponing the premiere of its latest series, The Savant, starring Jessica Chastain (Molly’s Game, Zero Dark Thirty), in the wake of the Charlie Kirk (Identity Crisis, Border Battle) assassination. The series stars Chastain as a top-secret undercover investigator who infiltrates online hate groups and takes them down from the inside.
“After careful consideration, we have made the decision to postpone The Savant,” an Apple TV+ spokesperson said in a statement via The Hollywood Reporter. “We appreciate your understanding and look forward to releasing the series at a future date.”
As per The Hollywood Reporter, The Savant, other than its general plot line surrounding politically motivated planned attacks on specific targets, does not relate to Kirk’s murder. The ideologies of Kirk’s alleged murder, Tyler Robinson, have been widely speculated as new reports emerge with both sides blaming one another for the event.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the series has been in the works at Apple TV+ for more than two years and is based of Andrea Stanley’s (Boys Don’t Cry, Pootie Tang) Cosmopolitan; she is also a consultant on the series.
As per The Hollywood Reporter, The Savant is also executive-produced by Chastain. The series is also executive produced by Kelly Carmichael (Nine, The Eyes of Tammy Faye) for Chastain’s Freckle Films, Alan Poul (Woman on Top, The Back-Up Plan), showrunner Melissa James Gibson (Anatomy of a Scandal, All Is Bright) and Matthew Heineman (Cartel Land, A Private War), along with David Levine (Nickel Boys, Burn Notice) and Garrett Kemble (Mommy’s Home, The Honeys) for Anonymous Content. Joining Chastain in the series are Nnamdi Asomugha (The Knife, Crown Heights), Cole Doman (Mutt, My First Film), Jordana Spiro (The Mob Doctor, My Boys), Trinity Lee Shirley (Way of the Warrior Kid, Da Bottomz), Toussaint Francois Battiste (An Extraordinary Life) and guest star Pablo Schreiber (Den of Thieves, The Wire).
