

Fans can now take a peek into acclaimed documentary filmmaker Rebecca Miller’s (Maggie’s Plan, Angela) Mr. Scorsese, a five-part documentary series from Apple TV+ about the acclaimed director. According to the press release, the trailer shows us Steven Spielberg (E.T., Jaws) and Martin Scorsese (Silence, Raging Bull) talking about a near blowout over the director’s cut of Taxi Driver. The incident shows Scorsese’s dedication to his vision. The project has unseen access to the auteur and is set to premiere on October 17th. View the first-look teaser below.
Mr. Scorsese will take us through celebrated director Scorsese’s filmography and artistic approach. The series will start all the way back at New York University and take a look at his student films. It will inspect the themes that most resonated with Scorsese, including the nature of good and evil and the baser instincts of humankind.
“This project is a filmmaker’s dream, to have had such access to legends of the industry, from Marty himself to his prolific collaborators, close friends, and family members,” director Miller stated about the project. “I was honored he trusted me to create this documentary, which I believe will resonate with everyone from dedicated Scorsese fans to anyone who has grappled with failure and reached for the stars. I’m excited to share a sneak peek of Mr. Scorsese, which includes the true version of a mythic (a never-before-told) story about ‘Taxi Driver,’ and how thanks to Marty’s perseverance and dedication to his art, the film retained its integrity and went on to become one of the most culturally significant films of all time,” she then added.
Mr. Scorsese utilizes his art as a medium to paint a portrait of the man, discovering all the intricacies that make him a legendary auteur. The film benefits from both exclusive and unrestricted access to Scorsese’s personal archives. The film features conversations about Scorsese and his work with many of the people closest to him including Robert De Niro (Raging Bull, The Irishman, Daniel Day-Lewis (My Left Foot, There Will Be Blood), Leonardo DiCaprio (Aviator, Titanic) , Mick Jagger (Freejack, Alfie), Robbie Robertson (Killers Of The Flowermoon, The Irishman), Thelma Schoonmaker (The Departed, Raging Bull), Sharon Stone (Basic Instinct, Casino), Jodie Foster (Silence Of The Lambs, Taxi Driver), Paul Schrader (Taxi Driver, First Reformed), Margot Robbie (Focus, The Wolf Of Wall Street), Cate Blanchett (Tar, Carol), Jay Cocks (A Complete Unknown, Silence), and Rodrigo Prieto (Brokeback Mountain, Barbie), along with his children, wife Helen Morris and close childhood friends.
Joining Miller in her directing efforts are executive producers Damon Cadris (Maggie’s Plan, Saturday Church) of Round Tree Films and Miller’s long-time creative collaborator Cindy Tolan (Étoile, Dandelion) . Additional executive producers include Rick Yorn (Max Payne, Reptile), Christopher Donnelly (EastEnders, Carthage Must Be Destroyed), and Julie Yorn (Max Payne, Hell Or High Water). Ron Burkle (The Giver, Safe Haven) is billed as producer, and Robert Fernandez (The Fog Of War, Wormwood) and Patrick Walmsley (Heels, Daughter Of The Bride) will serve as co-Executive Producers. The series is produced by Expanded Media and Round Films in association with LBI Entertainment and Moxie Pictures.
Mr. Scorsese becomes part of Apple TV+’s slate littered with award-winning documentaries, including STILL: A Michael J. Fox Movie, Selena Gomez: My Mind & Me, and STEVE! (martin) a documentary in 2 pieces, as well as the recently announced Fleetwood Mac documentary.
