According to Deadline, Apple TV’s Severance first two seasons were produced by different studio, but now the series will be fully run by Apple TV. In a deal finalized late last year, Apple acquired Severance fro Fifth Season, which includes the IP and all rights. Under the pact, just under $70 million, Apple’s in-house Apple Studios will be the studio on the Emmy-winning series in the future. Fifth Season will become an executive produceder.
As per Deadline, executive produced by Ben Stiller (Tropic Thunder, In the Dark), Severance is a sci-fi thriller that follows employees at the Lumon Industries who undergo a surgical procedure to split their memories between work and personal lives, creating distinct “innie” and “outie” personas who dont know anything about the other. Mark S. leads a team discovering the dark, conspiratorial truth behind their jobs, battling for control over their identities and reality. The cast of the series includes Adam Scott (Parks and Recreation, Step Brothers) as Mark, Britt Lower (Man Seeking Woman, Future Man) as Helly, John Turturro (The Jesus Rolls, Barton Fink) as Irving, Tramell Tillman (Barron’s Cove, Good Sex) as Milchick, Zach Chery (Fallout, The Great American Baking Show) as Dylan, Christopher Walken (Catch Me If You Can, The Deer Hunter) as Burt Goodman and many others.
According to Deadline, the series a said to cost as much as $20M an episode for its 10-episode second season, will become major title in Apple Studios portfolio of shows. Severance will be joining series such as Your Friends and Neighbors, Stick, Sugar and Palm Royale and movies such as last year’s tentpole F1. The transaction is similar to the handover between AMC Studios and Apple Studios of another elaborate series title , Silo.
As per Deadline, from the very start , Heads of Worldwide Video Zack Van Amburg and Jamie Erlicht also set out to build an in-house studio. More than six years later, Apple Studios produces about half of Apple TV’s productions.
