Apple TV+’s Rose Byrne (Neighbors) led series has been given a second season, according to The Hollywood Reporter. News of the renewal was announced just days prior to the conclusion of the seres’ debut season.
Physical takes place in 1980s San Diego, when a troubled housewife supports her husband’s run for state assembly while attempting to manage her own personal issues, eventually finding an outlet through the world of aerobics. The half-hour dramedy stars Byrne, Della Saba (Sharkskin), Rory Scovel (I Feel Pretty), Lou Taylor Pucci (You), Ashley Liao (The Kicks), and Dierdre Friel (New Amsterdam). It is executive produced by Annie Weisman (Be Aggressive), Craig Gillespie (I, Tonya), and Stephanie Laing (Irreplaceable You). The series was given a straight-to-series order in January 2020.
“We couldn’t be more proud to showcase Annie Weisman’s singular take on this darkly funny, heartbreaking, and bold story,” Director of Domestic Programming at Apple TV+, Michelle Lee, said. “And then we got to watch Rose Byrne inhabit this incredible, multilayered character, giving us an unforgettable tour de force performance. We have been thrilled to see audiences around the world fall in love and feel seen by this show and we can’t wait for everyone to experience the next chapter in Sheila’s journey towards personal empowerment,” via The Hollywood Reporter.
