Fans of Apple TV+’s journalism melodrama, The Morning Show, received a breaking update on the series. According to Deadline, the series received a season renewal on the eve of its fourth season premiere. The series debuted in 2019 as one of the streamer’s earliest drama series.
Starring Reese Witherspoon (Walk the Line, Election) and Jennifer Aniston (Friends, Murder Mystery), the show examines the inner workings of a Today Show-esque news program and network. The first season even echoed real-life remnants of the Matt Laurer scandal at NBC when Aniston’s on-screen partner, played by Steve Carell (The Office, The Patient), is fired for alleged accusations. In the wake of his departure, Aniston’s Alex Levy earns a new co-host, the virtually unknown Bradley Jackson, played by Witherspoon. The next two seasons have reflected topics in our current media, including the events of January 6th.
According to Deadline, the fourth season finds our characters two years later in 2024. The official logline reads: “With the UBA-NBN merger complete, the newsroom must grapple with newfound responsibility, hidden motives and the elusive nature of truth in a polarized America.”
Along with Aniston and Witherspoon, the series cast includes Billy Crudup (Jay Kelly, Where’d You Go, Bernadette), Nestor Carbonell (Shogun, The Dark Knight), Mark Duplass (The Chair, Biosphere) Greta Lee (Past Lives, Tron: Ares), Nicole Beharie (Love, Brooklyn, Black Mirror), Jon Hamm (Your Friends & Neighbors, Fargo), and Karen Pittman (Forever, Yellowstone). According to Deadline, season four brings in bold additions, including Rebel Ridge star Aaron Pierre, William Jackson Harper (The Resort, Love Life), Marion Cotillard (The Dark Knight Rises, Inception), Jeremy Irons (HBO’s Watchmen, Dead Ringers), and Boyd Holbrook (Logan, The Sandman).
Produced by Media Res, The Morning Show is run by Charlotte Stoudt (Homeland, Fosse/Verson) via Deadline. Stoudt is joined by a plethora of executive producers, including director Mimi Leder (The Leftovers, ER), Michael Ellenberg (Pachinko, Robin Hood), Lauren Neustadter (The Last Thing He Told Me, Truth Be Told), Micah Schraft (Mrs. America, Jane the Virgin), Zander Lehmann (Casual, The Shannara Chronicles), Kristin Hahn (Covid Is No Joke, Stargirl), Aniston, and Witherspoon.
Season four of The Morning Show arrives on Apple TV+ on Wednesday, September 17.
