According to The Hollywood Reporter, Apple TV+ has canceled the animated musical sitcom Central Park. According to series star Josh Gad (Frozen, Beauty & the Beast), the streamer has canceled the series after its three-season run which included 39 episodes. After a fan asked about a possible fourth season on the Meta-owned Threads, Gad responded with, “Sadly, it’s done.” Apple officially confirmed that the series would not be returning for another installment.
Created by Bob’s Burgers Loren Bouchard (Home Movies) alongside Gad and Nora Smith (The Bob’s Burgers Movie), the animated musical follows the story of a family of caretakers who live and work in Central Park. Produced by Disney’s 20th Television Animation, the family works hard and even saves the park from a wealthy hotel heiress who wishes to turn the park into condos. The animated musical premiered in 2020 and included many composers such as Leo Birenberg (Cobra Kai), Elyssa Samsel (Jojo Rabbit), Brent Knopf (Friction), Elegant Too (Hot Fuzz), and John Dylan Keith (Lucy: The Daughter of the Devil).
The animated musical series cast includes Gad as Birdie, Titus Burgess (Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt) as Cole Tillerman, Daveed Diggs (The Little Mermaid) as Helen, Kathryn Hahn (WandaVision) as Paige Hunter, Leslie Odom Jr. (Hamilton) as Owen Tillerman, Stancy Tucci (What If…?) as Bitsy Brandenham, Emmy Raver-Lampman (The Umbrella Academy) as Molly Tillerman, David Herman (Futurama) as Bellhop, Phil LaMarr (Craig of the Creek) as Randy and many others.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, in 2018 Apple gained the rights to the animated musical after a long bidding war that guaranteed the series with a two-season, straight-to-series order. Central Park joins many other series that the streamer has recently canceled such as Swagger and The AfterParty.
All three seasons of Central Park are still currently available to stream on Apple TV+.
