A new streaming platform will be embarking on its first San Diego Comic-Con this July. Deadline reports Apple TV+ is set to debut at the International Comic Convention taking place on July 20-24. The entertainment event returns after a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The streamer plans to have panels featuring some of its biggest and brightest genre series.
Debuting in November of 2019, the streamer slowly built a steady following with popular series such as The Morning Show and Emmy-winning breakout comedy, Ted Lasso. However, the platform has recently picked up steam showcasing some notable prestige TV series. In its third season, the underrated For All Mankind has become a critic darling. And this year, the service received a major push from the multi-generational family drama, Pachinko, and the critically-acclaimed workplace thriller, Severance.
According to Deadline, several Apple TV+ panels are planned for the five-day event. Multiple creatives will be present for a storytellers’ panel featuring See’s showrunner, Jonathan Tropper (Warrior, Banshee); Simon Kinberg (Dark Phoenix, THe 355), the executive producer of the alien series, Invasion; and, comedy Mythic Quest’s co-creator and executive producer, Megan Ganz (The Onion, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia). They’ll be joined by Foundation creator, David S. Goyer (Blade: Trinity, Heaven’s Shadow), who plans to share an exclusive first look at the show’s second season currently in production.
The Ben Stiller-directed Severance will have its own panel featuring creator Dan Erickson (Blood Sisters, Treasure Trouble) and members of the cast, according to Deadline. The series starring Adam Scott (Parks and Recreation, Big Little Lies) premiered in February and follows the mysterious happenings at a controversial tech company known as Lumon Industries. The convention will also feature a special installation where guests will have to survive their first day as a Lumon employee.
Fans of the historical fiction series, For All Mankind, can expect cast members and creatives to discuss the third season, which premiered on June 10, via Deadline. The Sony Pictures Television-produced show traces what the space race between the United States and the then Soviet Union would have looked like if the Russians had landed on the moon. The show stars Joel Kinnaman (The Suicide Squad, Robocop), Jodi Balfour (Quarry, Bomb Girls), Casey Johnson (Rise, GLOW), Santel VanSanten (The Boys, Shooter), Coral Peña (Chemical Hearts, The Enemy Within), Wrenn Schmidt (The Good Catholic, Outcast), Sonya Walger (Tell Me You Love Me, Night Sky), Krys Marshall (Lesbian Cops, Raincheck Romance), and Cynthy Wu (Before I Fall, Holidate). All will be in attendance for the panel.
Lastly, Deadline reports Mythic Quest’s Ganz will be joined by the cast of the tech developer comedy to discuss the pending third season. Guests will hear from series stars David Hornsby (Good Girls, Fanboy & Chum Chum), Charlotte Nicdao (a gURLs wURLd, Content), Danny Pudi (Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Community), Imani Hakim (The Gabby Douglas Story, Everybody Hates Chris), Jessie Ennis (Family, Better Call Saul), and Ashley Burch (Critical Role, The Ghost and Molly McGee). The show, co-created by Rob McEhlhenney (Game of Thrones, Minecraft), explores the day-to-day intricacies of the development team responsible for one of gaming’s most popular multiplayer video games.
The exact date and times of the San Diego Comic-Con panels will be announced at a later date.
