Apple TV recently announced the addition of five new cast members to their new TV show Presumed Innocent. According to Deadline, the actors joining the show’s cast are newcomer Chase Infiniti, Nana Mensah (The Chair, After Yang), Matthew Alan (Snowfall, Castle Rock), Lily Rabe (American Horror Story, The First Lady), and Kingston Rumi Southwick (9 Full Moons).
They join previously cast Jake Gyllenhaal (Ambulance, The Guilty) who will be playing Rusty Sabich; Ruth Negga (Passing, Preacher) who will be starring as Barbara Sabich; Bill Camp (American Rust, Passing) as Raymond Horgan; Elizabeth Marvel (The Dropout, News of the World) will be playing Lorraine Horgan; Renate Reinsve (The Worst Person in the World, Hvite Gutter) starring as Carolyn Polhemus; Peter Sarsgaard (The Batman, Dopesick) as Tommy Molto; and O-T Fagbenle (The Handmaid’s Tale, The First Lady) as Nico Della Guardia.
According to Deadline, the limited series is inspired by the courtroom thriller written by Scott Turow (The Last Trial, Identical) and it follows the story of a horrific murder that upends the Chicago Prosecuting Attorneys’ Office when one of its own is suspected of the crime. The thriller was first published in 1987 and it was later adapted into a movie in 1990 starring Harrison Ford (Star Wars, Indiana Jones) in the role of Rusty.
In this new adaptation by David E. Kelley (Big Sky, Big Shot), the show will be exploring obsession, sex, politics, and the power and limits of love, as the suspect fights to keep his marriage and his family together.
Character descriptions via Deadline have Mensah playing Detective Alana Rodriguez, one of Rusty’s close friends and an ally who will become his only supporter within the ranks of the Chicago police force when Rusty finds himself a suspect in a crime.
Infiniti is set to portray Rusty and Barbara’s daughter, Jaden Sabich. Meanwhile, Southwick will be playing their son Kyle Sabich.
According to Deadline, Rabe will be starring as Dr. Liz Rush, Rusty and Barbara Sabich’s marriage counselor who finds herself on the front line of the family’s legal travails. Alan will portray the reclusive former husband of Carolyn Polhemus, Dalton Caldwell.
The show hails from Bad Robot Productions and David E. Kelley Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television. Kelley serves as a writer, showrunner, and executive producer for Presumed Innocent. Bad Robot’s executive producers on the series are JJ Abrams (Westworld, Lovecraft Country) and Rachel Rusch Rich (Demimonde). Mathew Tinker (Avalon, The Calling) ep’s alongside Kelley through David E. Kelley Productions. Gyllenhaal, and Dustin Thomason (Castle Rock, Manhattan) also executive produce for the series. Anne Sewitsky (A Very British Scandal, Castle Rock) will produce the first two episodes as well as direct them.
