Actor Anthony Rapp (Star Trek Discovery) and an anonymous plaintiff under the moniker of “C.D.” are suing Kevin Spacey for alleged sexual offenses made against them in the 1980s when they were both about 14 years old, as reported by Deadline. Rapp, who previously accused Spacey for sexual misconduct nearly three years ago in a Buzzfeed article, filed the lawsuit with the New York Supreme Court on Wednesday.
Rapp first came forward about Spacey’s alleged sexual misconduct towards him in October 2017. In light of these allegations, Spacey took to social media to come out as a homosexual man. Since then, Spacey has faced numerous allegations of sexual abuse, but has yet to be convicted in court for any of his alleged crimes.
This includes an assault and battery case in filled 2019, when Massachusetts prosecutors were forced to drop their case against Spacey after the victim, an 18-year old boy who accused the actor of allegedly groping him at a bar in Nantucket in 2016, failed to appear in court.
A plaintiff in another 2019 civil case – the estate of a deceased massage therapist who accused the actor of sexual assault in 2017 – was forced to settle out of court after the lawsuit had been dropped against Spacey for unspecified reasons.
Rapp’s layer Peter Saghir gave this statement to Deadline: “In bringing this action under New York’s Child Victims Act, Mr. Rapp, who previously came forward to Buzzfeed about the abuse, and our client who needs to remain anonymous have taken the first step to hold Spacey accountable [.] This lawsuit sends a strong message that no matter how wealthy, powerful or famous you may be you are not above the law. Our clients are looking forward to their day in Court and to obtaining justice for a crime that never should have happened.”
Under the lawsuit, both Rapp and C.D. are seeking damages for severe emotional distress experienced during and since their alleged encounters with the Academy Award winning actor. They both filed for an unknown amount for compensation and punitive damages against Spacey.
Deadline provided this excerpt from the six-claim complaint filed Wednesday in the New york state court:
“By reason of the foregoing, plaintiff, ANTHONY RAPP, sustained psychological injuries, including but not limited to, severe emotional distress, humiliation, fright, anger, depression and anxiety; a severe shock to his nervous system; and has been caused to suffer mental anguish, emotional and psychological damage as a result thereof, and, upon information and belief, some or all of these injuries are of a permanent and lasting nature; and plaintiff, ANTHONY RAPP, has been forced to abstain from the duties of his vocation, and has and/or will become obligated to expend sums of money for medical expenses.”
