Fans of Anne Rice’s bestselling trilogy Lives of the Mayfair Witches are in for a treat. The much-anticipated series adaptation, Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches, is set to premiere next month on AMC Networks, according to Variety.
The eight-episode series, which stars Alexandra Daddario (Baywatch) as Rowan Fielding, a young neurosurgeon who discovers she is the heir to a family of witches, will debut on Sunday, January 8 at 9 p.m. ET on BBC America, IFC, SundanceTV, WE TV, and AMC and AMC+. The premiere episode, written by Esta Spalding (Falling Angels) and Michelle Ashford (Operation Mincemeat) and directed by Michael Uppendahl( Adam), will also become available for streaming on Shudder, Sundance Now, Acorn, and ALLBLK on January 12.
In addition to the series premiere, AMC will also be releasing All of Them Witches, a documentary exploring the history of witches, on December 21 on AMC+ and on January 2 at 10 p.m. ET on AMC. The hour-long film, directed by Mona Panchal (That’s What She Said), features interviews with Pam Grossman (host of The Witch World podcast), Bri Luna (better known as @thehhoodwich on social media), Amanda Yates Garcia (an American healer and medium also known as “the Oracle of Los Angeles”), and Curly Velasquez (Wise One, Vida), and delves into the history of witch hunts, paganism, and voodoo, challenging the myths that have become ingrained in popular culture. All of Them Witches is executive produced by Kathryn Everett (Butterfly in the Sky), Kathleen Flood (Bong Appétit), Bryn Mooser (Body Team 12), and Justin Lacob (Ascension), with Steffie van Rhee (Battleground) and India Wadsworth (Shoot on Sight) serving as producers and Matthew Cherchio (Best Summer Ever) as a co-executive producer.
Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches is led by showrunner and executive producer Spalding, with Johnson, Ashford, Uppendahl, and Jeff Freilich (Code Name Phoenix) also serving as executive producers. The series is produced by AMC Studios, and features a talented cast that includes Jack Huston (House of Gucci) as Lasher, Tongayi Chirisa (Mr. Bones) as Ciprien Grieve, and Harry Hamlin (Harry Loves Lisa) as Cortland Mayfair.
Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches is part of the Anne Rice Immortal Universe, which also includes the recently released Anne Rice’s Interview with the Vampire. According to a statement to Variety by Dan McDermott, president of entertainment and AMC Studios for AMC Networks, Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches is “a wildly entertaining series…with a terrific creative team and cast, led by Alexandra Daddario as an unforgettable Rowan Mayfair.”
The network is excited to give the series a broad launch across all five networks, following the success of Anne Rice’s Interview with the Vampire.
