On Saturday, AMC+ released a new teaser for the eagerly anticipated Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches that unveiled a slight shift in its premiere date and the fact that the series will also be airing on AMC. In the beginning of this month, it was confirmed by AMC+ that Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches would make their appearance on Thursday, January 5, 2023, but the release of a teaser for this upcoming series has interesting news for their fans to dive into the next installment of AMC’s Immortal Universe, according to ComicBook.
The trailer reveals that Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches will now air its debut on Sunday, January 8, 2023 on both AMC and AMC+. The air time has not yet been announced.
“The first season starts where the book starts, in that mood of New Orleans and the sort of ghost story of this house,” says the showrunner Esta Spalding (Rookie Blue, On Becoming a God in Central Florida) about the series. “We meet really quickly Rowan Fielding who’s the main character of the first book and through the series.”
Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches focuses around Dr. Rowan Fielding, played by Alexandra Daddario (Baywatch, Texas Chainsaw), a magnificent neurosurgeon who unearths that she is the implausible heir to a family of witches. As Dr. Fielding adjusts to her newfound powers, she has to dispute with a malevolent existence that has haunted her family for generations.
Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches stars Jack Huston (American Hustle, Outlander), Beth Grant (Speed, No Country for Old Men), Daddario, Jen Richards (Blindspot, Her Story), Tongayi Chirisa (iZombie, American Horror Story), Annabeth Gish (Beautiful Girls, Before I Wake), and Harry Hamlin (Clash of the Titans, Mad Men). It was written and executive produced by Spalding, and Michelle Ashford (The Pacific, Masters of Sex). Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches is the second series in an expanding Anne Rice universe. Anne Rice’s Interview with the Vampire was the first series in the Anne Rice universe. The Anne Rice universe is based on Rice’s best-selling trilogy, Lives of the Mayfair Witches. Mark Johnson (Rain Man, The Chronicles of Narnia) is overseeing development of the full Anne Rice collection into a streaming and television universe, according to Deadline.
“Some are fun, some are deliberate, and some are almost Easter eggs,” says the series executive producer Mark Johnson said in reference to the two series. “But Mayfair Witches is very much its own project and its own series. Obviously, it’s connected to Anne Rice’s thematic and stylistic concentration, so it’s very much a part of what she does but I would say that there’s a very little deliberately from Interview in Mayfair Witches.”
Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches will have the first two episodes available on Thursday, January 5, 2023. Subsequent episodes will rollout weekly. The series has eight episodes.
