According to Deadline, Anne Hathaway is set to star in the limited series The Ambassador’s Wife coming from Entertainment One and the Mark Gordon Co.
The show is based on a novel by Jennifer Steil where a British women is kidnapped in Yemen which sets off problems for her husband, an ambassador. The novel was published last month. There is no word about a writer for the television series yet. And Anne Hathaway not only serves to star in the show, but she will also serve as a producer for The Ambassador’s Wife.
This is the first major project from Mark Gordon Co. since the company began in July with Entertainment One. Mark Gordon talked about the upcoming high profile project, “The Ambassador’s Wife is an incredible story that pulls you in immediately and resonates with all of us based on the images and news headlines that are pervasive in our lives today. We are so fortunate to have Anne starring in this timely, gripping and compassionate drama. She is in a league all her own, and we cannot think of anyone who can better portray Steil’s complex heroine” (Variety).
Anne Hathaway joins the new trend of massive film stars being cast in limited series. Film stars like Matthew McConaughey, Woody Harrelson, and Rachel McAdams joined the cast of True Detective; which shows actors who wouldn’t otherwise commit to television, commit to a limited series.
Upcoming work for Hathaway includes the film The Intern coming to theaters September 25.
