Anne Hathaway (Les Misérables, The Dark Knight Rises) and Jared Leto (Dallas Buyers Club, Suicide Squad) will star in WeCrashed, a limited series just ordered for Apple TV+ about the 2019 failure of WeWork, according to Deadline. The series is based on WeCrashed: The Rise and Fall of WeWork from podcast publisher Wondery.
Leto is set to play WeWork founder Adam Neumann, and Hathaway will play Rebekah, Neumann’s wife and cofounder of WeWork, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
WeWork is a company that intends to provide workspaces for companies, as well as individual entrepreneurs, and was valued at almost $50 billion before they cancelled their initial public offering amid controversy about Adam Neumann’s embezzlement, among other things, according to Variety.
Lee Eisenberg (Little America) and Drew Crevello (production for The Grudge 2) will helm the project, serving as co-writers, executive producers and showrunners, according to Variety. Leto and Hathaway will also serve as executive producers alongside the series directors, John Requa and Glenn Ficarra, who co-wrote together on I Love You, Phillip Morris and Crazy, Stupid, Love. In addition, Emma Ludbrook of her and Leto’s own Paradox production company, Charlie Gogolak and Natalie Sandy will executive produce.
WeCrashed joins Apple’s latest slate of series alongside Israeli neo-noir thriller Losing Alice and feminist science drama Lessons in Chemistry.
