Yet another character from the original series is going to make an appearance in The X-Files revival coming in 2016.
This time it’s Annabeth Gish as Monica Reyes, according to Variety. Reyes is an FBI agent who appeared most prominently in the last season of the original series but was in the series for the final two seasons. Gish is set to appear for only one episode of the six-episode event series.
During her time on the show, Reyes worked with Gillian Anderson’s Scully and Robert Patrick’s Doggett who played her partner. Reyes was the believer in her partnership with Doggett, Doggett was more of a skeptic like Scully. Robert Patrick is not set to come back as Doggett though and is currently with CBS’ Scorpion, according to TVLine.
Reyes and Doggett were somewhat controversial characters in the original series. They were brought on after contractual issues that had David Duchovny’s Mulder off the show for awhile. Many fans considered these two agents as unsuitable replacements for the beloved Mulder and Scully.
Reyes was last seen in the series finale helping Mulder and Scully go on the run. It remains to be seen what her role will be in the revival event series.
Other returning original members include Mitch Pileggi as FBI official Walter Skinner, and William B. Davis will return as the mysterious Cigarette Smoking Man. Tom Braidwood, Dean Haglund and Bruce Harwood are also back as the fan favorite conspiracy-obsessed trio the Lone Gunmen.
New cast members include Joel McHale, Robbie Amell and Lauren Ambrose as we reported on here. You can also read up on the plot details that have been announced as well as the split between Mulder and Scully here. The six-episode series will premiere on Fox on January 24.
