The second season of Netflix’s Luke Cage has a new villain. The actress from The Sopranos Annabella Sciorra, will be playing as the mobster Rosalie Carbone. Besides The Sopranos, Sciorra has also played parts in: Internal Affairs, The Hand that Rocks the Cradle, Jungle Fever, and Netflix’s G.L.O.W. According to Entertainment Weekly (EW) her character is described as, “a dangerous downtown criminal underworld power player with an eye, and an agenda, toward Harlem.”
Luke Cage showrunner Cheo Hodari Coker said, “I’ve been a huge fan of hers since Spike Lee’s Jungle Fever, and Anabella Sciorra is no joke as Rosalie Carbone. You haven’t seen her this gangster since her thrilling turn as Tony’s formidable flame Gloria Trillo on season 3 of The Sopranos. I’m thrilled her introduction to the Marvel Universe will be on Marvel’s Luke Cage.”
Marvel TV head Jeph Loeb also said, “We couldn’t be happier to be working with such an incredible talent. This character is complex and layered and Annabella is the perfect actress to portray her.”
Sciorra’s character (Carbone) actually has another connection in the Marvel universe. The other vigilante that she is connected to is Frank Castle, The Punisher. In the comics the two had a relationship; however, once Carbone learns of Castle’s true identity it does end. With Carbone showing up in Luke Cage and having this connection with The Punisher, it could potentially lead to a crossover especially because of the rumor about The Defenders not coming back for a second season.
The thirteen episodes of season two for Luke Cage will return in June 22 on Netflix.
