HBO finds another survivor of a zombie apocalypse. Anna Torv (Mindhunter) will join HBO’s adaptation of the hit video game series, The Last of Us, in a key recurring role, via The Hollywood Reporter.
The Last of Us takes place 20 years after modern civilization has been destroyed and will follow Joel, played by Pedro Pascal (The Mandalorian), hardened survivor hired to smuggle 14-year-old Ellie, played by Bella Ramsey (Game of Thrones), out of an oppressive quarantine zone. The series will follow Joel and Ellie embarking on a brutal journey as they trek across the U.S., depending on each other for survival.
Torv is set to play Tess, “a smuggler and hardened survivor in a post-pandemic world,” via Deadline. In the original game, Tess was an ally to Joel and helped him smuggle weapons out of Boston. She also accompanies Joel in smuggling Ellie to the Fireflies.
The series will also star Gabriel Luna (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.), Nico Parker (Reminiscence), Merle Dandridge (Greenleaf), Murray Bartlett (The White Lotus), and Con O’Neill (Chernobyl).
The series, created by Craig Mazin (Chernobyl) and Last of Us creator Neil Druckmann, will be based on the award-winning Playstation Game and a co-production with Sony Pictures Television. Playstation Productions, Word Games, The Mighty Mint, and Naughty Dog will also produce the series. Mazin will also serve as the showrunner.
The Last of Us is set to have ten episodes and is expected to premiere in 2022.
